Cristianisme i Justícia is a Jesuit centre for theological and social reflection based in Barcelona, part of the Conference's network of Social Centers, a network coordinated by Filipe Martins, Secretary for Social Apostolate at the Conference. Cristianisme i Justicia dedicates to promoting dialogue between faith and justice in response to today's social, political and cultural challenges. Through publications, public lectures, training programmes and digital resources, the centre encourages critical reflection on issues such as social inequality, migration, ecology, peace, democracy and human rights, drawing on the Ignatian tradition and Catholic social teaching. Its mission is to help Christians and all people of goodwill engage thoughtfully with contemporary issues and contribute to building a more just, compassionate and sustainable society.

The English edition of Faith and Justice: Celebrating Our Roots, issue 243 of the Cristianisme i Justícia booklet collection, by Jesuit Patxi Álvarez de los Mozos, is now available on the Cristianisme i Justícia website.

Published fifty years after the 32nd General Congregation of the Society of Jesus, the booklet revisits the origins, significance and continuing relevance of Decree 4, which placed the service of faith and the promotion of justice at the heart of the Jesuit mission.

Álvarez de los Mozos traces the historical and ecclesial context in which this commitment emerged and reflects on the profound impact it has had on the Society of Jesus. The faith-justice mission was not understood as something limited to the social apostolate, but as a commitment affecting the whole Society and all its ministries, including education, pastoral work and intellectual reflection.

The booklet also looks at how this commitment has developed over the past fifty years and why faith and justice remain inseparable today. It offers an opportunity to revisit a fundamental part of contemporary Jesuit identity and mission, and may therefore be of particular interest to Jesuits and to all those who work and collaborate in Jesuit institutions and apostolic works.
