On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the conversion of St. Ignatius, after the International Symposium on the Spiritual Exercises which will bring together experts in the field of Ignatian spirituality from around the world, the Cave of St. Ignatius at Manresa and EIDES–CJ will offer from June 19th to the 28th the possibility to make the Exercises in four different modalities accompanied by some of those same experts present at the Symposium:
Spiritual Exercises according to the Method and Order of the Ignatian Text - by Josep Mª Rambla s.j. and team – in Spanish
Under this modality these spiritual exercises will follow the course of the four Weeks and will interweave aspects of the Autobiography of Saint Ignatius, particularly the chapters of his stay in Manresa. Points for prayer will be offered once a day and there will be the possibility of daily accompaniment.
The Spiritual Exercises and the call to work for and with the those at the margins of society - by Dan Hartnett S.J. – in English
The person that makes the Spiritual Exercises experiences God’s unconditional love not only in the world and in history but in his or her own life. Moreover, in the process, the retreatant can come to recognize a personal invitation from Christ – the human face of God – to collaborate with Him in such a way where our world becomes a home for all. This call, in addition to giving meaning and direction to our lives, invites us to accompany and to walk with those who find themselves quite literally on the margins or excluded from the world. The fruit of such a communion engenders a special kind of happiness.
Spiritual Exercises with an ecological key (accompanied by Eileen FitzGerald and members of the Amazonia Itinerant Team: Fernando López S.J., Arizete Miranda and Raimunda Paixao ) - in Spanish
These Exercises propose a vulnerable listening in order to enter into a process of ecological conversion, that frees us for a renewal of our commitments to caring for the common Home and for welcoming the gift of hope.
The contemplative retreat according to Franz Jalics (accompanied by Karin Seethaler and Javier Melloni s.j.) - in English
The contemplative retreat according to Franz Jalics is characterised by a step-by-step approach to the Jesus Prayer with a great simplicity. In turning to the name of Jesus, imperceptibly transformation happens. The silent repetition of his name leads us to ourselves, to our own depth and opens us to the presence of God. The structure the retreat is based in several hours of silent meditation together, in continuous silence during the day, with a daily Eucharist and with Chi Kung exercises. The accompaniment takes place both in the daily exchange in the group and in a complementary personal form.
These four different retreat offerings (two in English and two in Spanish) will present avenues for the actualisation and adaptation of the Ignatian mystagogy in such a way where the Exercises continue to be fully meaningful in today’s world.
These retreat experiences are offered for men and women who have previously made the Exercises and who desire to renew and deepen their spiritual experience with new forms of access to the mystery of God and afterwards share those experiences with others.
