The Centre Avec, the Jesuit Centre for Social Analysis in Brussels, has published a guide entitled "Les recettes du vivre-ensemble" (Recipes for living together), which is aimed at anyone who is curious about interculturality. In the framework of the World Interfaith Harmony Week, the Centre joined forces with associations of the Turkish diaspora and a Brussels synagogue to organise an intercultural meal on 17 February at the Jesuit Matteo Ricci College, located in a precarious neighbourhood with a very strong social and cultural mix in Brussels. This convivial setting allowed about fifty people to discuss the place and meaning of meals and religious holidays (Christian, Jewish and Muslim). Food and festive meals were thus a pretext for meetings, exchanges and intercultural dialogue. For the guests present, this evening was a wonderful discovery of the Jewish, Christian and Muslim religions around good food, opening up the possibility of meeting others in a convivial atmosphere!
"Recipes for living together”
This guide aims to encourage encounters and exchanges between people of different cultures, by combining, on the one hand, the common discovery of what makes sense in Jewish, Christian and Muslim cultures and religions and, on the other hand, the convivial sharing of small dishes marked by these various cultures. Thus, after introductions to these three religions, the guide proposes to discover as a group the meaning of 12 significant festivals of these religions and gives 12 recipes that can be used to accompany them.
This practical guide is designed to be of service to schools, associations and movements that live and work with the challenges of living together and would like pedagogical support to encourage positive dialogue.
