A new programme of online Spiritual Exercises "The eyes of all look to you", with individual accompaniment, started in Advent. It was promoted by the Ignatian Centre for Spirituality (CIS), the network that coordinates activities and formation for the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in Italy, Albania, Malta and Romania.
More than 100 people participated, accompanied by 70 guides. About 12,000 views of the meditations presented. "Paolo Monaco, CIS director, explains: "The experience of the lockdown in March taught us that it is also possible to experiment this format, “at a distance”." Reflections presented between April and May, first as "Exercises" and then as an "Ignatian Itinerary", have attracted a great deal of attention, with a popularity that we would not have imagined. "More than 100 people", he adds, "asked for spiritual accompaniment by e-mail, made possible by the availability of 80 guides during those months. The first of the proposed videos recorded over 33,000 views.”
The fruitfulness of the experience and the situation of uncertainty and sufferance that people are still experiencing have encouraged the CIS to continue in this direction, making the website more functional to the user's search and needs. The new portal is in fact designed to make the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises known and to provide information on the proposals on Ignatian spirituality at national and local levels. The new graphic design and the images that enrich the different pages help the consultation of the contents. The homepage and the menu present the structure of the CIS network, the different formats of Exercises, the formation programmes, and the Ignatian spirituality itineraries. The calendar of the Spiritual Exercises courses has been simplified and is faster to consult. The interactive maps and the pages dedicated to the territories make it easier to search in each Italian region for proposals and guides for Exercises "at km 0".
"We hope," stresses Fr Monaco, "that the site will be a useful tool for people approaching Ignatian spirituality and for those seeking help in their journey to deepen their faith.
