Meeting Core Group Gian in Spain.

The core group of the GIAN (Global Ignatian Advocacy Network) for the Right to Education met from 10 to 13 October in Madrid (Spain).

The group gathered representatives of various Conferences (CPAL, Europe, JESAM, South Asia and Canada / USA) and international organizations (Fe y Alegría group and JRS) working in schools, universities and social organizations of the Society of Jesus.

In these four days of work they reflected on the present situation of education in the world and talked about how to perform the commitment of the Jesuit works with the right to quality education for all people. One of the first tasks will be to update the official paper on the right to education that Jesuits organizations prepared in 2008.

One goal of this network is to raise awareness in the Society on this fundamental right. One of the big news has been the incorporation of new members to this core group from the USA and Latin America teams.

They worked with this global vision about how we dream this network for the next years and concluded with a final document that will be sent to the new General Fr Arturo Sosa SJ. The network shares his desire to contribute to what seems impossible today, with 263 million children out of school, most of them in South Asia and Africa, where 61,9 million live in countries at war.
