The Holy Father Francis has named Father Juan Antonio Guerrero Alves, S.I., of the Province of Spain, Prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy of the Holy See beginning in January 2020. Since 2017 Father Guerrero has served as General Counsellor and Delegate of the Superior General for the Interprovincial Houses and Works of the Society of Jesus in Rome (DIR).1
Father Guerrero was born in Mérida, Spain, in 1959. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1979 and was ordained a priest in 1992. He has studied in Spain, Brazil, France, and the United States. He holds degrees in economics (1986), philosophy (1993), and theology (1994). In 2008 he was named Provincial of Castilla in Spain. In 2014 he was sent to Mozambique, where he served as treasurer and project coordinator.
New Delegate for the Interprovincial Houses and Works of the Society of Jesus in Rome (DIR).
The Superior General of the Society of Jesus has named Father Johan Verschueren, S.I., General Counsellor and his Delegate for the Interprovincial Houses and Works of the Society of Jesus in Rome (DIR)1. Father Verschueren is now Superior of the Region of the European Low Countries.
Father Verschueren was born in Berchem, Belgium, in 1960. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1985 and was ordained a priest in 1995. He has studied botany, philosophy, and theology. He has rich apostolic experience in youth ministry and in education as well as broad experience in accompanying the formation of Jesuits and in governance of the Society of Jesus. Father Verschueren will begin his service in Rome in January 2020.
