The #sjes50years congress ended on Friday November 8. A Eucharist with Father General has been celebrated at the Gesù Church in Rome!

The Second Social Apostolate Congress held between November 4 and 8 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat has been a huge success. The congress was held under the theme of A Journey to Justice and Reconciliation: 50 years and beyond.

A little more than 210 participants (Jesuits and lay women and men collaborators) came together from 62 countries around the world to gratefully acknowledge the graces received from God in the past and His/Her presence now and to review, renew and recommit the social apostolate and to give new perspectives through discernment, collaboration and networking in order to better implement the Universal Apostolic Preferences. These have been five fruitful days of input, reflection, group sharing, prayer and collective discernment. In this issue of Headlines we have compiled the news, press releases, videos, photographs and all the sessions recorded throughout this Congress so that we could share them with all of you. A highlight of this five-day congress was undoubtedly the meeting with Pope Francis on Thursday. He urged the participants of the Congress always to remain close to the most vulnerable. “Our broken and divided world needs to build bridges”, he said. Human encounters allow us to discover, in the most marginalized, the beautiful face of a brother and sister, in whom we recognize ourselves, said the Pope.
