Le Groupe des Deux Rives (Two Shores’ Group) held its annual meeting on 26th-30st December 2018 in the Jesuit community of Constantine, Algeria. Only four of us could attend. On 27th, two more joined by skype in order to share about lives and missions. So we had the usual core at the meeting. As a whole, our main challenges are:

  1. To remain available, ready to stay a long time and to go elsewhere if required.
  2. To prepare the future, for instance, to be able to give 30 days’ Spiritual Exercises to Muslims.

To be in loving communion with our environment, especially the poor and the little ones.

The participants shared the common life of Damien and Jesus in Constantine, in a small Christian community, working with children in a popular area in Centre Nibras, with students and teachers of the Islamic university in the diocesan library Dilou.  an artistic exhibition took placewhile we were there. We also went to celebrate the wedding of the son of a friend of theirs.

We participate at the parish life at Bon Pasteur (Good Shepherd) House, taking the opportunity to propose there a cultural activity open to the public. A conversation  a talk about Islamist radicalism entitled Crossing Views on Islam, was held between Jaume Flaquer and a collaborator of Dilou, Rawya.

The proposal - “Inland Discovery of Algeria” - will be renewed from 7 to 28 July 2019 in Constantine, as the year before, under the direction of Damien de Préville.

The next meeting of the group should take place in Toulouse, at the invitation of Jérôme Gué, conveyed by Christophe Ravanel, from December 31, 2019 to January 4, 2020.
