London to Brighton for JRS

On a bright Saturday morning, nine intrepid bike riders of very varied experience, set off for the 60 mile Jesuits in Britain Bikers challenge cycle ride, from our offices in London to Brighton. They were very much aided by two wonderful support staff in a van!

“Our aim was simple,” says Fr Gerard, “to get to Brighton safely and raise as much as possible for JRS UK. It truly was a ‘long and winding road’ in soaring temperatures; the rising mercury level however, could not compete with our wonderful team ‘spirit level’!”

Thanks to well-wishers, the bikers have raised £3,700 of their target of £5,400 which will go a long way towards providing a meal and support for refugees who come to the JRS UK day centre each week.

Sarah Teather, Director of JRS UK said “I am so grateful to the group of Jesuits and supporters who took on this huge challenge. The route from London to Brighton is a big ride. Their enthusiasm and generosity in doing this on a hot Saturday in August is truly inspiring!”

Jesuit Refugee Service UK accompanies people who are seeking asylum and supports their efforts in their search for hope, peace and security. The people they work with do not receive any public benefits or accommodation and do not have permission to work. They rely on JRS UK for every day essentials, such as food and travel, toiletries and warm clothes.

Please consider helping the Jesuit bikers reach their target by sponsoring them on their Justgiving page.
