In June, some Jesuit institutions in Spain have arranged actions to make society aware about the 68,5 million refugees in the world. 33 million of them are children. These activities seek to improve their living conditions.

The entities of the Jesuit Social Area have launched the campaign March for hospitality. Two thousand people have walked 30.000 kilometers for the refugees in 10 Spanish cities. The deep sense of these marches is a tribute to those people fleeing their home, walking with them. This idea comes from the walks that Fr Frans van der Lugt (killed in 2014) did in Syria.

This month the Migrants Jesuit Service has presented a Report on Immigrant Detention Centers (CIE) 2017: Worthless suffering: the new lazarettos
This report has been presented in 6 cities. The Migrants Jesuit Service (SJM) prepared this annual report to analyze the situation in the CIEs. The report focusses on the worthless suffering of migrants, detained for their illegal situation and isolated in the CIEs, a sort of modern lazarettos, old hospitals for contagious diseases.

Entreculturas and Jesuit Refugee Service have launched the campaign “4 words” to promote and to guarantee that children will have access to quality Education and the support they need to live a dignified life.  4 words that can change the lives of over 33 million refugee children who are fleeing war, violence, and poverty all over the world: WELCOME, PROTECT, PROMOTE, INTEGRATE…
In late 2018, UN Member States are planning to adopt two Global Compacts, one for Refugees and the second for Migrants. We want them to include these four words, proposed by Pope Francis, to influence the governments and those policies that permit and promote war, violence, and inequality.

On this day the Jesuit NGOs Pueblos Unidos and Servicio Jesuita a Migrantes launched a Legal Guide for the migrants detained in CIE (Inmigration Detention Centers). A very useful tool for NGOs and lawyers helping migrants during the Internment process.

The Jesuit NGO Alboan presented the play “Alas rotas”, to address the problems of the refugees. They have also participated in mobilizations of other social and church entities.
