The Year Diego de Pantoja has been presented in Madrid and Barcelona to commemorate the 400th anniversary of his death. Diego de Pantoja was a pioneer in the exchange between China and the West. He was one of the closest collaborators to Matteo Ricci. Several institutions join the commemoration of this year, with events in China and Spain.

Diego de Pantoja, born in 1571, traveled with Matteo Ricci to Beijing, where they obtained the favor of the emperor to settle in the city. Both were supporters of the inculturation, approaching the Chinese culture, customs and traditions to introduce Christianity.

Diego de Pantoja came to publish several works in Chinese and contributed in an outstanding way to raise awareness of China in the Western world. Its contributions to the development of Chinese technology and cartography are also highlighted.
