Józef Wilczyński, SJ received the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

He has been honoured for working with youth at the music school, he led for 47 years. “I do not teach anymore because the calendar does not allow me to do it, I will be 86 years old soon. I am still running a team of pupils and students from the music school. Thank you for them. The band consists of a choir, orchestra and ballet” said Father Wilczyński.

He has been the conductor and founder of the musical band "Stella Maris", operating at the Secondary Music School in Gdańsk. There are pupils and graduates of the school as well as people associated with the Gdańsk Academy of Music.

The band, with around 200 people, performs in Poland and abroad, even in Western Europe, North America and Australia, and for Pope John Paul II. “Two weeks ago we were in Brussels and we gave a concert there. I will continue to lead this team as much as I can", says the priest with a smile.

Father Józef Wilczyński has been associated with the parish of the Holy Cross at Mickiewicza Street in Gdańsk Wrzeszcz. He has been awarded many times, including by the Senate of the Republic of Poland, the City Council of Gdańsk and the voivode of Pomerania. On March 16, the Jesuit will reach his 86th anniversary.
