On the weekend of 2 - 4 February the St Ignatius Parish of Stamford Hill hosted the Second International Choir Music Workshop led by the Polish composers Paweł Bębenek, Piotr Pałka and Hubert Kowalski.

More than 130 people had the opportunity to improve their singing technique and to practise harmonies.  The three-day workshop also offered a great opportunity for different cultures and singing traditions to meet and learn from each other.

Fr Mateusz Konopinski SJ, assistant priest of the parish, said “singing unites people very much; during these three days we not only learned new songs, but also managed to get to know and even better understand the meaning of liturgical music.”

The workshops culminated in two beautiful masses, one in English and the other in Polish during which the more than a hundred person choir and several dozen instrumentalists presented the results of their three days’ intensive work.

“A living church is not only groups and events, it is also a beautiful liturgy, and in the beautiful liturgy, singing is extremely important” observed Fr Mateusz.

Following the success of this year’s workshop another is being planned for next year.
