Father Pizzuti, of the Jesuit community living in Scampia, Naples, recounts Christmas celebrated with Roma families.
Promoted by the Neapolitan anti-racist network, by the Committee "Abitare Cupa Perillo" with the collaboration of the ethnic restaurant "Chikiù", there was a solidarity lunch cheered by food, music and Yugoslav dances, to show in these holidays the closeness to the Roma families temporarily lodged for four months in the Auditorium of the 8th Municipality, in the wide entrance of this Auditorium. In addition to the members of the Association "Chi Roma e... chi no", volunteers from the training centre "Alberto Hurtado guided by Sergio Sala SJ and friends of the anti-racist network were present. In the gardens in front of the Municipality, a young oak tree was planted which is significant for the Serbian people and good wishes.
At the end of lunch there was the bread ceremony, almost a secular Eucharist, in which the young father who celebrated the ritual invoked from the Lord in the coming year not only bread, but above all a worthy dwelling for these families. Father Domenico Pizzuti at the beginning invoked for his part the blessing of the one God of Abraham, Jesus Christ and the Prophet Mohammed. It should be noted that, even in the midst of the hardships of this temporary arrangement (it is to be said) a community of life has cemented among these families, who are giving an example of civilization with the maintenance and care of this structure.
