Dear Friends,

I write to announce the death of Fr. Eddy Jadot in Brussels on Sunday, 14th June.

Eddy was Director of JRS-Europe from 1993 to 2000 and subsequently became Director of JRS-Belgium. As director of JRS in Europe, Eddy's care and concern for refugees were known all over Europe and indeed further afield. He travelled all over, helping to start new JRS offices and encouraging provincials to take initiatives about the refugee crisis. Many of our present day structures owe much to his work and his vision.

In addition to the European situation, Eddy had a long-standing commitment to work on behalf of the Bhutanese refugees in Nepal and also for the refugee situation in Sri Lanka. He worked as an advocate up to recently on these issues, and won much respect among those working in the EU institutions as he persistently and tirelessly advocated on these issues and for those refugees. He was a man with a truly universal concern, whose heart reached out beyond the borders of countries and nations, indeed to the whole world.

Please remember him in your prayers for all the work that he did on behalf of the most marginalised in our societies.

His funeral will place in Brussels on Saturday June 20th, World Refugee Day. May he rest in Peace.

With best wishes

John Dardis SJ
