On April 28, 2017, the Jesuit universities of Spain (UNIJES) and AUSJAL (Jesuit universities in Latam) issued a statement on the situation in Venezuela. In this statement, they expressed their concern about the humanitarian crisis in the country and condemned the repression over those who express their protest in the streets. In solidarity with the statement of the Catholic University Andrés Bello (UCAB) that demands to the government "to stop the repression and the criminalization of the peaceful demonstrations. Those arbitrary arrests should cease and judicial guarantees should be granted to all people detained in the framework of the recent demonstrations".
