The Northern Poland Province (PMA) of the Society of Jesus is marking its centenary in 2026, commemorating its establishment on 15 August 1926. The jubilee is an opportunity to give thanks for a century of Jesuit presence and mission in Poland, while looking towards the future with gratitude and hope. The following article, originally published by Jezuici.PL, highlights the significance of this milestone and the celebrations held in Święta Lipka and Warsaw.

On 15 August 2026, the Greater Poland and Mazovia Province of the Society of Jesus marked the 100th anniversary of its establishment. The jubilee offers an opportunity for the Jesuits of the Province, together with their collaborators, friends and wider community, to give thanks for a century of religious life and mission. Throughout the Jubilee Year, various initiatives are taking place to commemorate the Province’s history and express gratitude for God’s continued presence and guidance.

The anniversary was marked by two celebrations on 15 August. In the morning, Jesuits and faithful gathered at the Shrine of Our Lady of Christian Unity in Święta Lipka for the annual feast-day Eucharist, with the homily given by Fr Robert Danieluk SJ, a historian of the Society of Jesus. In the evening, the jubilee was celebrated at the Shrine of Our Lady of Grace in Warsaw, precisely where the Province was established on 15 August 1926. Fr Krzysztof Dorosz SJ, writer, historian and director of the Province Archives, preached at the Eucharist.

For the Jesuits of the Province, the centenary is above all a moment of thanksgiving for the gift of vocation and for the grace of being part of this hundred-year history. It is also an invitation to look towards the future with the same spirit of gratitude and openness to mission. The Jubilee Year continues throughout 2026, with further initiatives marking the history and mission of the Province.
