JCEP President Dalibor Renić participated in the February 2025 meeting of the Jesuit Conference of South Asia (JCSA) at Loyola College, Chennai. It is a long-standing tradition for Conference Presidents to periodically attend assemblies of other conferences, fostering mutual understanding, shared learning, and a sense of co-responsibility for the universal mission of the Society of Jesus.
In the presence of Father General and his assistants, the central theme of the JCSA General Assembly was “Reimagining and Restructuring the Society of Jesus in South Asia.” A significant portion of the gathering was dedicated to Major Superiors sharing their personal experiences in guiding and animating this transformative process within their respective Provinces and Regions.
The Reimagining and Restructuring initiative is an ambitious undertaking, aiming to mobilize approximately 4,000 Jesuits to revitalize 930 apostolic institutions. These include 435 schools, 82 centers of higher education, 139 social work centers, 226 parishes, 41 retreat houses, and 7 centers for interreligious dialogue. The initiative seeks to transcend provincial, national, and ethnic boundaries, embracing the universal dimension of the Jesuit vocation and mission.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to gain insights from Jesuits beyond the JCSA Conference. JCEP President Dalibor Renić shared European collaboration models and discussed the challenges and opportunities of the Jesuit mission in Europe. Additionally, he had the opportunity to visit the JCSA Conference Philosophate in Chennai and some apostolic works of the Chennai Province.
