Treasurers and Provincials meet in Luxembourg.
There was a full attendance of Western Europe Provincials and Treasurers, with representation from the Jesuit Curia in Rome and the Conference of European Provincials. Special welcome to Fr. Victor Assouad, new Regional Assistant of Fr. General, and Fr. Leonard Moloney, new Provincial of Ireland. The biennial joint meeting of Western European Provincials and Treasurers took place in the Maison des Soeurs Franciscaines in Luxembourg from 10 to 12 February 2017
A wide variety of topics were discussed, some by the Provincials and Treasurers meeting together, and others when they met separately. Among matters discussed by Provincials were the challenges facing their own Provinces, possible restructuring of Provinces, and centres of formation. The Treasurers shared information on the financial state of their own Provinces, and discussed real estate policies and miscellaneous topics.
Matters discussed by the whole group meeting together included governance at Province level, and the involvement of treasurers in Province planning. Possible modifications to the Instruction on the Administration of the Goods were also debated. Sharing of resources between Provinces, particularly for Formation, were discussed in detail. Issues arising from GC 36 were also on the agenda.
On Saturday evening the Provincials and Treasurers were entertained by the local Jesuit Community. Jesuit Superior Josy Birsens introduced the members of the Community and gave them an opportunity to describe their varied apostolates. This was followed by much animated informal discussion, and a chance to sample some regional beers.
As usual, the hospitality of the Soeurs Franciscaines over the week-end was outstanding, with excellent food and accommodation, and a readiness to respond to the needs of the group in the organization of their meetings.
