"The Witness of Faith Heals Wounds".

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Servant of God Tomáš Munk, the Slovak Province of the Society of Jesus proclaimed the Year of Tomáš Munk with the motto "The Witness of Faith Heals Wounds".

The inauguration of the Year of Thomas Munk will take place on Sunday 28 January 2024 in Ružomberok. The Holy Mass at 10.30 a.m. in the Jesuit Church will be presided by Auxiliary Bishop Mons. František Trstenský on behalf of the Diocesan Bishop of Spiš, Mons. Ján Kuboš.

The Year of Tomáš Munk was proclaimed by the Jesuit Provincial, Father Jozef Šofranko SJ, in a special letter, in which he writes, among other things:

"The Year of Thomas Munk will be an opportunity to realize the family roots of Thomas' witness of faith and the legacy of the entire Munk family for today."

"The Munk family joined countless members of the Jewish people and members of the Catholic Church who were mercilessly liquidated by the totalitarian regime, whether because of their origins or because of their fidelity to God. By their fidelity to Christ to the end, they became like him, even to his cross, and became a beacon. They are God's light to us and to everyone who is confronted with similar issues, whether in equally brutal or in a different, more sophisticated form."

"May the Munk family be our guides on the journey of inner renewal of the nation's shared memory. It is a path of respect for the religious convictions of others, a path of loyalty, humility, faith and love. It is a consciousness of the values stemming from the Judeo-Christian roots from which we draw spiritually and culturally."

"In this Jubilee Year of Tomáš Munk, I cordially invite you all to penetrate more deeply into the spiritual beauty of this family and to discover its legacy. Together, let us perceive the richness and diversity of God's grace, which may continually permeate our lives, as it has permeated the lives of the Munk family."

The Year of Thomas Munk will conclude on May 4, 2025, on the 80th anniversary of the martyrdom of Servants of God Thomas and his father Francis, whose beatification process has reached its final stage.
