On 10 September Gabrielius Zaveckas pronounced his first vows in the chapel of the Jesuit College in Innsbruck. The celebration was attended by confreres jesuits, guests and friends from Lithuania as well as Austria, Germany, Ireland, and Italy. These vows are the final point of the two-year journey in the novitiate. „The confreres, my family and my friends actually showed me how important first vows are,“ said Zaveckas. „For me personally, saying 'yes' to God has become public. It has consequences for the whole life from now on.“

Gabrielius Zaveckas was born in Kybartai, in western Lithuania, in 1997. Before entering the novitiate, he studied political science at Vilnius University. Having pronounced his first vows, the young jesuit began his philosophy and theology studies in Paris. He will live in the Saint Pierre Favre community.

Provincial Fr. Bernhard Bürgler SJ spoke in the homily about God's call to Mary, her response and the Magnificat, Mary's great song of praise to God. Turning to the young confrere, he formulated his wish: „So you too, like Mary and many others throughout history, will sing this great song, the Magnificat, again and again, literally and through your life. Together with others, together with us. May it sound and transform the world.“
