The Master in Ignatian Spirituality (Master Ignatiana) is a program offered every two years by Comillas Pontifical University (Madrid). It can be taken in one academic year. It has a very interdisciplinary content that combines history, theology, anthropology and psychology with the study of Ignatian spirituality and charism. It also aims to provide an understanding of the mission of the Society of Jesus and other Ignatian-inspired institutions in the contemporary world from the motivations and charism that inspire and sustain them.
Upon completion of the master’s degree, students have the possibility of joining the programme for a Canonical Licentiate in Theology, and subsequently continuing on to a Doctorate in Theology specialising in Ignatian themes.
Students also have the opportunity to visit the most emblematic Ignatian places in Spain such as Loyola, Javier, Manresa and Montserrat.
The Ignatiana Master's Degree came about after Pope Benedict XVI invited the Society of Jesus to continue providing Ignatian formation. The master's degree began in 2013 and has been repeated every two years. So far, students from all over the world have already completed the master's programme, which is already a reference in Ignatian formation worldwide.
