Father General Arturo Sosa has appointed Father Sebastian Šujević as the next Provincial of Croatia. Fr. Sebastian is aged 44 and comes from the city of Rijeka, Croatia. He grew up in a Jesuit parish in his native city, where he also attended the Salesian High School. He joined the Society of Jesus at age 21. After the study of Philosophy in Zagreb, and Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, he was ordained priest in 2009. In 2012 he completed a licentiate in Fundamental Theology from the same Gregorian University.
He served first as the youth chaplain at the parish and faculty campus in Zagreb-Jordanovac, and then as the vice-superior of the Jesuit formation community in Zagreb. Since 2014 he has been headmaster of the Jesuit High School in Osijek. He took his final vows in 2018 and in the same year was appointed province consultor.
Fr. Šujević will take office on 29 June 2023.
