The Letter – The Pope’s documentary on the vision of Laudato si’.
Seven years ago, on 24 May 2015, Pope Francis wrote the encyclical letter, "Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home." Through it, he communicated his message "to bring the whole human family together to seek a sustainable and integral development." But sadly, its transformative vision of environmental protection has yet to sway the world's political, economic, and cultural decisions. As a result, the degradation of our planet continues.
The Letter, a documentary film produced by the Laudato Si Movement and Off the Fence, shows how to kickstart this great challenge: carry out inclusive dialogue. The Pope declared: "Discussions are needed in which all those directly or indirectly affected (…) can know their problems and concerns and have access to adequate information to make decisions for the common good, present and future." (Laudato Si’ n°135).
The Letter brings those from the peripheries to an inclusive conversation between them and Pope Francis. The voices of the poor, indigenous peoples, youth, and wildlife are featured and show unity despite their distinct worldviews. With their personal experiences and powerful messages, they aim to initiate a movement of great dialogue to get into the heart of the crisis and start the necessary transformation now. Listen to them. And be heard as well. Help heal our Common Home.
