Almost 20 archivists from Europe and the Middle East participated in an online meeting of archivists. The meeting was organized by the Jesuit Roman Curia.

The meeting began with a round of updates on the status of each archive and on the work in progress. Some important conclusions were taken. In general, the restrictions due to the Covid pandemic have now finished everywhere, although researchers often still prefer to enquire via email rather than face-to-face. The challenge, now, is the rising costs of electricity. Some archives have been forced to reduce their opening hours to cope with these difficulties.

The possibility of a publication on the documents of the Jesuit archives relating to the Second World War was a very important part of the meeting. The main idea is a publication with a short presentation text for each archive (about 2 pages) with a first part presenting the main collections related to the Second World War owned by that archive and a second part with the role of the Jesuits in that period. After that, the idea is to include a selection of the most significant documents (it is assumed 5).

Then we decided to continue the attempt according to the proposed scheme of two introduction pages, and five documents for each archive, trying to arrive at a concrete proposal for the month of April. Christian, Eleni and Rebecca offered to coordinate this attempt.

The next meeting is scheduled for February 2023. Digital archives are planned to be discussed on that meeting. Click here to access some preparation materials for that meeting.
