Last March, Boston College and the Arrupe Center of Valencia (Spain) joined forces to share a free online course on "Discernment in Desolate Times", recorded on video by the Jesuit Toni Catalá, before his death (August 2021). Given its success - with 11,829 people enrolled - Boston College has decided to leave these 10 videos that make up the course open on this link for all those who want to take it up again or retake it.

Of the almost 12,000 people registered, 27% of them were Spanish, followed by other Spanish-speaking countries, such as Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela, Paraguay and also the USA.

In the case of our country (Spain), it should also be noted that the news item announcing this course is already the second most visited in the history of our InfoSJ website (with 33,200 visits in just two months).

Angela, one of the people who has completed the course, liked it "a lot". "It's true that it didn't seem particularly new to me, but the Ignatian repetition is necessary". He highlights its clarity, especially the language, "super simple, understandable, accessible, down to earth, no strange words, concepts, spiritualisms, with a spontaneous, humble, simple clarity on his part...". And also practical, because at the end "he gives three keys, three exercises that can help me to discern, which I found very practical. I find myself in a moment of discernment and so it helped me to practice or exercise in discernment". It also helps to clarify what one can and cannot discern and clarifies many misconceptions about what discernment is. Angela concludes: "It helped me, I think it can help a lot of people and I'm glad it has been left open because it allows it to be taken up and used, even for communities.

Throughout the video classes, Fr Catalá SJ explains how discernment is the search for the passage of the Spirit in our lives, in a specific time, space and reality. Therefore, this course aims to offer the basic tools to learn the dynamics of discernment in our current personal, social and ecclesial context.

The course, in Spanish, is completely free of charge and can be taken online through this link
