The Italian school for migrants at Gonzaga Campus in Palermo, with Centro Astalli, has been serving people for 15 years to build a better future. Since November of this year, 40 foreigners have been helped in learning the Italian language, from 12 to 40 years old.

The Italian school has three levels of teaching - literacy, intermediate, advanced - distributed in four courses running from Monday to Friday afternoon. The agreement with the University of Perugia, moreover, allows foreigners to obtain the certification that attests the degree of linguistic-communicative competence as a second language, today indispensable to obtain the residence card and Italian citizenship.

Dedicated to migrant people are 10 volunteers and four young people for the school-to-work internship. Among the volunteers are a seminarian, a primary Italian teacher, a middle school French teacher and some retired people. >

The people come from different countries: Argentina, Brazil, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mariutius, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Algeria, Latvia, Ukraine. The school, open every afternoon from Monday to Friday, is organized in four courses. In May, there will be, precisely for some, the possibility to take the external exam that certifies the B1 language level necessary for the residence card or citizenship.
