In September and October, the Ignatian Portuguese NGO Leigos para o Desenvolvimento (Lay people for development) (LD) sent 9 new volunteers on mission to Angola, Sao Tome and Principe and Portugal. Among the volunteers, there is one who renews her mission for another year. After a year marked by the pandemic and the impossibility of having all missions working, the mission cycle 2021/2022 embraces the usual normality, with the sending of young people who will perform in community and on a voluntary basis, for a year, a service of development and social promotion.

To mark and bless the departure of these new volunteers for mission, the LD celebrated a sending mass in the beginning of September in the Church of the São João de Brito College.

The new volunteers, who come from various parts of the country, went through a training program developed by the organization itself, namely in the areas of volunteering, development, spiritual life and community. In the final phase, they had specific training on the development projects they will be working on.

With different paths and life stories, all of them say they feel motivated and driven to dedicate the next year of their lives to the service and promotion of human development and to make their knowledge available to others, contributing to the development of local communities.
