The reconstruction of Ignatiushaus, the Jesuits´ house in Domgasse 3 in Linz is nearly finished. Rebuilding was necessary after various pipe breaks within the last few years and because of defective wiring. Reconstruction included electricity, heating system, thermal insulation, fire safety measures, and bathroom units in different areas of the house. Besides some surprises work went on time and in budget, thanks to good planning and cooperation of all actors involved. Only local firms from Linz and Upper Austria have been contracted. Reconstruction started end of June 2016 and will be finished at the end of November.

We invest not only in construction material, but also in people. We want to create a space of reconciliation and orientation. The ground floor will be used by the episcopal foundation for unemployed people of the diocese. It provides support and practical assistance for unemployed people. The first floor will continue to give temporary home to refugees/asylum seekers. The second floor is going to be used for spiritual exercises and individual retreats (“Tage der Stille in Linz”). The Jesuit community will live in the third and fourth floor.

The final blessing of the building will take place on December 3rd at 10 am. In the mark of the celebration the Bruckner organ which has been restored during the summer will be blessed as well. Dr. Manfred Scheuer, diocesan bishop of Linz will be in charge of the ceremony. Many guests from the area of politics and church, among them the governor of Upper Austria, Dr. Josef Pühringer, are awaited.
