JCEP General Assembly.

The launch of the Universal Apostolic Preferences coincides with the beginning of the process of designing a new apostolic plan for the Conference of European Provincials (JEPC).  Normally this assembly meets once a year, the last one was in Barcelona last September, but after the 36th General Congregation, the Provincials decided to join also in April or May from now on.

The main topics discussed at the JCEP meeting were the beginning of two important themes: the new apostolic plan and the East-West dialogue in Europe. And also the continuation of old themes such as European formation centres or an update on the Jesuit Refugee Service in Europe and the Middle East.

One of the key moments of the meeting was the talk by Msg. Jean Claude Hollerich, SJ, Archbishop President of the Commission of the Episcopal Conferences of the European Community (COMECE). Msg. Hollerich opened the doors of reflection in the Society of Jesus, in the Church and in civil institutions for a better dialogue between the different historical and cultural territories of Europe.

There were important contributors to the conference such as Ms. Sandra Chaoul, who will continue to be the facilitator of discernment on the apostolic plan of the JCEP.  Mark Ravizza, General Secretary for Formation, who assisted in the dialogue on Jesuit formation centers in Europe.  The directors of JRS Europe, Fr José Ignacio García, and JRS Middle East and North Africa, Fr Nawras Sammour, shared with the provincials the plight of refugees with special attention to the Syrian conflict.

The atmosphere of trust and dialogue at this meeting in Rome showed the Conference of Provincials as a useful tool for discernment. If all roads lead to Rome, now from Rome there are new routes to share our faith and hope.
