According to the decree of Father General Adolfo Nicolas (8 April 2016), after long preparations, all houses and works of the Society of Jesus in Denmark were transferred from the German Province to the Greater Poland and Mazovia Provice (the North Polish Province - PMA) on 31 July 2016. The South Polish Province (PME) will share this new responsibility by forming and sending Jesuits there too.

On September the 5th in Copenhagen we met on this occasion, with the presence of three Provincials Stefan Kiechle (GER), Jakub Kołacz (PME) and Tomasz Ortmann (PMA), the bishop of Copenhagen Czeslaw Kozon, all Jesuits involved in work in Denmark and many friends and guests. The celebration consisted of a Thanksgiving Mass, in our St. Augustin church, for 144 years (from 1872) of apostolic service under the leadership of the German Province, a historic exhibition and an official reception in the Niels Steensens Gymnasiums cafeteria for Jesuit and friends, and by prayfull visitation of the cemeteries where the Jesuits who passed away are buried.

Right now, there are two main works and houses of the Society in Denmark and 8 Jesuits serving there. The Niels Steensens Gymnasium in Copenhagen (recently the only Catholic high school in Scandinavia) with 700 students (from 6th to 12th graders), 56 teachers, and 4 Jesuits living in Niels Steensens Kollegium – 1 from GER (retired), 2 from PMA (the superior and a regent) and 1 from PME (the minister). The other work is the biggest parish in the diocese, in Aarhus, the second biggest city in Denmark, with 92 nationalities, and 4 Jesuits working there – 3 from GER (the superior, the parish priest and one retired) and 1 from PMA (the minister).

We kindly offer our Danish apostolate to your prayers.
