The Polish Provinces are happy to announce that on Sunday, February 4, in the Chapel of the Jesuit College in Gdynia, two first-year novices adopted monastic attire. They also received a copy of the Constitution of the Society of Jesus, a crucifix and a rosary.

The vestments usually take place after a month-long retreat during the first year of the novitiate.

The Jesuit gown is not a habit, but an outfit used by diocesan priests in the 16th century. The black dress is tied on the right side with a black belt. Novices have a narrower belt than Jesuits who have already taken their first vows. After several years of monastic formation, when a Jesuit is admitted to religious profession, he can also wear a long black professed cloak over his gown.
