On July 30, 2022 deacon Mikhail Tkalich SJ, native of Russia, was ordained to the priesthood by mons. Rafal Markovski at the Sanctuary of St. Andrew Bobola in Warsaw. The ordination was initially supposed to take place in Moscow, but the place had to be changed because of the war which Russia started against Ukraine in the meantime. Mikhail belongs to the Russian Region which is now part of the Polish Northern Province.
Introducing the candidate for ordination, the provincial father Zbigniew Leczkovski SJ said that Mikhail was born in Rostov-on-Don on February 27, 1985 in a family of five brothers and sisters. After completing his studies in the field of information technology, he worked professionally as a specialist in this field in Russia. A few years after his conversion and after his profession of faith in the Catholic Church, he entered the Society of Jesus in 2009. He completed his novitiate in Gdynia and studied philosophy in Krakow. As a pastoral practice, he spent two years in Tomsk, where he served in a local parish and taught at a Jesuit school. He then studied theology, first in Santiago, Chile, and then in Warsaw at the College of Bobolanum.
For the past two years he has been studying spirituality at the Jesuit University of Comillas in Madrid. As Fr. Leczkovski stated, Misha, in addition to being a pleasant, open person, is also artistically gifted - he sings beautifully, plays the guitar and organ. In addition, he proved to be an outstanding computer specialist and a patient instructor of all those who consider computer science a secret art, difficult to master. Misha is also linguistically gifted and, in addition to Russian, he also knows Polish, Spanish and English. Last year, on June 19, Misha was ordained a deacon. After his ordination to the priesthood, Mikhail will continue his studies in spirituality at the Bobolanum Collegium in Warsaw, and will also give spiritual exercises at the European Center for Communication and Culture in Falenica near Warsaw.
