Missionary Kike Figaredo, SJ visited Madrid with a group of Cambodian children, Toi, Wanari, Pailou, Shameth and Sokmalí, all victims of war, poverty or extreme injustice, to present the documentary "Mission in Battambang. In the footsteps of Kike Figaredo", a film that tells the story of these five children. Figaredo and the children took advantage of their passage through the capital to visit Comillas and the rector of the university, Julio L. Martínez, SJ, received them and stayed with them. Some of the children continued their journey, specifically to Asturias, where they were going to have one of their eyes operated on, in order to try to recover some sight. A few years ago a mine made him lose one eye and seriously damaged the other; now they are trying to improve his visual capacity a little with the help of ophthalmologists friends.
The documentary, which premiered in Madrid, aims to promote Figaredo's work, which arrived in Cambodia in 1985. "We take care of basic education, but we would like to train in leadership, improve people's food security and set up projects that generate economic resources to reinvest in people", explained the missionary. He also thanked the Comillas Pontifical University for the support it always gives them and for the volunteers who continually go to Cambodia to accompany them and collaborate in the training centers they have.
