A new place to nourish your faith in Brussels.

At the beginning of the 2019 academic year, a new place of Jesuit influence will open its doors in Brussels: the Forum Saint-Michel will offer a very wide range of Christian formation activities, but also spiritual, social and cultural proposals, according to various formulas and in an interactive and living way. Sense seekers or God seekers can come and taste the evening and weekend courses and seminars, the oasis and retreat days, but also the exhibitions, concerts, conferences and cineclubs in line with Ignatian spirituality.

Christian formation, pastoral care and spirituality, culture and society will be the three poles on which the Forum Saint-Michel is built. The proposed programme is aimed at young adults and retired people, lay people and consecrated persons, professionals of all disciplines. The Forum's support team is composed of Fathers Bernard Pottier sj (coordinator), Tommy Scholtes sj, Jean-Yves Grenet sj, Étienne Grieu sj, Krystian Sowa sj and Josy Birsens sj. Lay people from different backgrounds and priests and religious support the reflection within each pole.

Christian formation

Building on the pedagogical heritage of the Institut d’Etudes Théologiques, the Christian training centre aims to help contemporaries of all ages and situations to grow in the intelligence of the faith. The teaching team is composed of Jesuits, priests from the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels and lay people who have come partly from the IÉT. Several proposals will be offered, ranging from evening lectures to a program of about ten hours per week. The full program will last four semesters and may lead to a higher level certificate. Depending on their availability, students will have the opportunity to register globally for the entire course or in successive modules. For the first semester, three courses are scheduled and two cycles of conferences and debates are planned: "Dialogues all over the place (ecumenism and interreligious)" and "Flashes on the history of the Church". Two seminars of four consecutive mornings will take place on Saturday morning. Finally, a partnership with the Centre Sèvres de Paris will start from September 2019, as part of the ‘Believe & Understand’ program.

Pastoral Care and Spirituality

The Saint-Jean-Berchmans church of Saint-Michel College is a place of spiritual renewal known and appreciated in Brussels. We continue to broaden the welcome to offer a prayerful and benevolent presence, especially during the high points of the liturgical year. Thus, the "Oasis" mini-collections will allow interested people to experience a time of renewal at the heart of their daily lives, with ideas and advice for personal and community prayer. A small spiritual centre will welcome retreatants in the city: rooms in a wing of the Saint-Michel community will be set up for this purpose. From the beginning of the next school year, a training course on spiritual accompaniment will be offered.

Culture and Society

Targeting a wide audience, the "Culture and Society" cluster will bring together existing activities and generate new ones. Conferences, concerts, exhibitions, theatre and cineclubs will be on the programme, as well as occasional activities of more general interest, relating to current events and social issues. We will follow in lifestream some of the "Tuesdays of Public Ethics" from the Centre Sèvres in Paris. The range of activities will be further expanded over the summer.

From the beginning of the school year, you can count on our warm and dynamic welcome to inaugurate the Forum Saint-Michel, a place to nourish and live your faith.
